ONE GOOD DAY

A ROMANTIC MUSICAL COMEDY...ABOUT ROMANTIC COMEDIES

BOOK & LYRICS BY LIZ SUGGS, MUSIC BY RONA SIDDIQUI

ONE GOOD DAY is a musical love letter to Sleepless in Seattle, While You Were Sleeping, When Harry Met Sally, You’ve Got Mail, and so many more beloved romantic comedies the generation who are now adults grew up loving and maybe even believing in. And now, this musical catches that audience at a time when the proof meets the pudding. We’ve all grown up, life is real and hard and irksome, and now we ask the question: can everything magical that happens in movies happen in real life? Is it stupid to maintain a hopeful expectation, and does a romantic comedy really have anything to do with real life at all? Can your whole life really change in one day?

Idealistic NYC therapist Janey Hanks believes that it can, and she lives that way, guiding her patients under that principle. But when Janey makes a bet on her birthday with her eccentrically pessimistic sister Kat about whether it’s the idealist or cynic who gets further in life, the sisters' lives seem to switch places. Janey finds herself questioning her faith, right as Kat... seems to get everything she’s been waiting for. One Good Day asks whether we expect too much or too little out of life — the difference between contentment and settling, discontentment and hope, patients and patience. But, mostly, it's a show about having faith in a day when it seems the whole world is telling you not to.

One Good Day is the recipient of the ASCAP Mary Rodgers/Lorenz Hart Award, it was named a best new musical by the Festival of New American Musicals, it was selected for the ASCAP/DreamWorks Musical Theatre Workshop with Stephen Schwartz in LA and was seen most recently at the Page to Stage Songwriter Showcase in London. It can be spotted next at the NAMT Festival in NYC at New World Stages and at the ĭmáGen Workshop at MSU Fall 2018.
